Dumb $#!+ of the Day

Hot weather does not mix if it is with children or animals. Recently a stupid woman spent three hours at the Ontario Mills mall and left her now dead puppy in her car because she was too lazy to take it home. The dog was rescued, but it had severe heat stroke and had to be put down.

The woman who owned the car where the incident occurred will face felony animal abuse charges.

Maybe we should make it legal for people to break the car window to rescue a young child or an animal on a very hot day, as long as you have a witness and call the police in advance.

However there are some informative tips in this article from the Animal Planet Pets blog.

To Sharon

I know sometimes your site is down, but if its unstable due to high traffic or money issues you are more than welcome to post on my site as needed.

I barely use my bandwidth available on my starter account and if you need to share your wisdom to the people of the Inland Valley you are invited.

And also, transfer your domain to Name Cheap, the CEO of Go Daddy does not really care about animals.

Glad I Did Not Get Bamboozled

I did not vote for Ovitt in 2004, 2006 or 2010. I knew that Ontario was famous for corrupt politicians and voted for his opponent in each election. I also never voted for Schwarzenegger and voted Libertarian Party on his two elections as well.

I am also glad that redevelopment agencies are being killed in California. Redevelopment agencies namely in places such as Ontario led to all this corruption that has taken place in Ontario, Upland and San Bernardino County.

I know redevelopment agencies do noble things, but taxpayers end up getting ripped off from all the sweetheart development deals that get made where in Ontario, two developers get a parcel of land for 45 thousand when it was valued at 8 million dollars. Redevelopment agencies are hotbeds of corruption and I am glad Governor Brown is pulling the plug. The same folks who are responsible for the Colonies Scandal are part of the earlier 6th and Mountain scandal. That is why the Colonies developers were the fairy godfathers to Supervisor Ovitt.

It seems likely something will happen with Supervisor Ovitt in the near future, I hope all political figures and major donors in San Bernardino County learn from these experiences so they do not have to lawyer up or face jail charges and just serve the common people instead of trying to make their cronies rich.

About Glitter and Civil Disobedience

There is a new form of civil disobedience going on this year for next year’s presidential election, the glitter bomb. LGBT and progressive campaigners have glitter bombed Newt Gingrich, former governor Tim Pawlenty and Congresswoman Michelle Bachmann for their hostile attitudes towards the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgendered people in our nation.

Although it may seem to be a cute new way of protest and was amusing for the first time, it will get these individuals in deeper trouble than the equality campaigners who chained themselves to the White House fence last year. Yes, we may remember the activists who threw pies at Anita Bryant in the 1970s for her opposition to LGBT people, but we need to change our strategies in how to fight for equality the right way.

Throwing stuff at people is assault, if you can not do it to President Obama do not do it at all. If Michelle Bachmann became the Republican nominee, the Secret Service is not going to take these cute antics kindly.

As what I said on the GetEqual Facebook wall, we need to change strategies and do viral videos where we can share the message on sites such as Youtube and Vimeo. We can have political action committees  even use these videos that inform voters about the regressive ideas that future Republican Party presidential nominees may have, such as the majority of Republican Party presidential candidates want to undo DADT repeal even though troops elsewhere are still effective with LGBT people in their armed services.

If we get independents and young people to avoid choosing these non inclusive candidates then we can make a difference. Maybe homophobia will be passé in the 2016 elections.

More Asian Food Choices in Upland

To replace the school uniforms store in Upland, a Vietnamese restaurant serving traditional dishes such as Ph? is being added to the shopping center line up at Mountain Green. Sadly its not another Mexican food restaurant, where I would like to have some nachos each day I work at one of the stores there. Personally I like to go across the street to Connals.

When the restaurant gets opened I will be pleased to report on it.

Goodbye Blackberry

It has been a nice two years with your products Research in Motion, but I have to say is you guys have failed in the consumer market. The browser is not up to current standards, there is no space to install applications worth owning. OS6 was a promising operating system with a better browser, but there was no space to add any new programs after installing it, and not enough ram to open up pages when using the nice new OS6 browser. So I went back to OS5 and its own limitations.

Android and iphone have cleaned RIM’s clock big time. It was nice knowing the Blackberry. Too bad the 9900 was not out 6 months ago.

Bah Humbug Torres and McLeod

Due to the Democratic Party’s zeal to get paid, they have passed some dubious legislation that violates Proposition 25 and 26.

I do understand that we need to fund our education system and other useful public services. However the Democratic Party has violated the law.

Now I will likely have to remove my Amazon referral links because they will likely pull out so they would keep their right not to charge sales tax in California due to the passage of AB 153.

Remember Gloria McLeod wants to be one of the oldest house freshmen in 2013 at age 72. Think of how she wants to make your Amazon purchases more expensive.

Although we are obligated to pay for the out of state purchase because we are using the item in California, the use tax is obligated but the enforcement of it is rather difficult. Personally if the use or sales tax is too high people will naturally avoid it whenever possible. The goal for the use and sales tax is to make it reasonable, easier to comply with and easier for enforcement of said tax.

If the use tax was the base sales tax from California 8.25 percent or 7.25 percent depending if the temporary tax rate gets passed maybe people would be willing to fund our public services, and at least keep some money in our state. If the sales tax rate is too high people will run away like the excessive rate in Pico Rivera and South Gate.

Using the base tax rate would be a good idea because small businesses would not have to pay for expensive databases to find out the exact tax rate to invoice. Ease of compliance equals ease of enforcement.

Until Proposition 25 and 26 get repealed, Democrats have to follow the law. I know Republicans are extorting the state, but maybe we need a two year budget process so we would not have to play these stupid games each year. Because of the 2/3rds requirement there is no incentive for Republicans to have socially inclusive legislators. Maybe if the requirement was waived maybe Republicans would be there to represent all of the state not just a minor part of our state.

Redistricting in The Inland Valley First Draft

The first drafts are available and we are going to go through them one for the districts that are relevant for the Pomona Valley, San Bernardino and Riverside County. Districts have not been numbered yet, but I use the previous numbers as points of reference.

Board of Equalization: I guess we will have Orange and San Diego County’s BOE member as part of our district now in Ontario. So I will likely get more mailers from the Republicans running for this office. I do like George Runner, when he has little or no power to vote on socially conservative legislation and when he deals with money issues he’s a class act.

State Assembly:  (Previous AD 59 and 63)  Upland may get Democrats to represent them for the first time 1980 for all major offices even the State Assembly. Upland is the only San Bernardino County city included in the San Gabriel Foothills State Assembly district. This will be an open seat election since AD 63’s member Mike Morrell will likely have to face a battle royale against Tim Donnelly or run for State Senate when Bob Dutton gets termed out. AD 44 member Anthony Portantino will likely run in the district which got David Drier re-districted out.  When I used the 2011 odd-year report from the Secretary of State, the district was basically even in registration between Democrats and Republicans.

AD 63 used to have Upland, but this replacement district will have Rancho Cucamonga, the mountain communities, Hesperia, San Bernardino and Highland. The big news on this draft is that Mike Morrell and Tim Donnelly will have to run against each other if they choose to stay in the State Assembly.

I thought this district would be safely Republican, but adding San Bernardino to the mix may make it more competitive.

Gay Prison Guard Sues For Right to March in Parade

This story has a local connection in the 909 area code, right in my own back yard of Chino. A Chino prison guard for the California Institution for Women was denied the right to march in this month’s parade in West Hollywood. The guard’s superiors said him marching in uniform would embarrass our unit, even though other guards are allowed to march in other parades.

The guard hired Gloria Allred to handle his case.

Supermarket Strikes

Just to let our readers know, Supermarket Strikes will come later your way in Southern California. These strikes were uncomfortable back in 2004 where many of the supermarkets never fully recovered and some locations ended up shuttered like the one across the street from my employer in Upland.

I am perplexed why some supermarket chains get themselves in trouble Supervalu’s Albertsons when other unionized chains have less problems like Stater Brothers. Back in 2004 the union members in chains such as Albertsons, Ralphs and Vons ended up striking to prevent their wages and benefits from being reduced which led to a 142 day dispute.

Right now in 2011 we should expect another strike to hit our area from the fallout from the labor dispute in San Diego County.

I traditionally used to be uncomfortable with labor unions for many reasons, but labor unions help keep decent wage jobs for millions of Americans. If businesses want to avoid the wrath of a labor union they need to pay decent wages and be responsive to employee concerns like workplace safety.

The grocery industry is very fragmented right now and there are many non-union competitors. I know union members want to protect their wages and benefits and they rightfully so. My cousin is a union member for the grocery industry and I do understand their concerns. Only fear for a future supermarket strike is that more jobs will be lost like the Upland Pavilions that closed right after the strike.
