Since the Facebook commenting software is either not displaying my comments or the staffers at the Daily Bulletin are censoring comments even though they were quite tame I would like to address my views on the issues here at my personal blog.

How can this be bigotry when we are allowing ILLEGALS a chance to get financial aid? They need to become legal…then they can get all the aid they want! – David Serbin

David, I do agree. Its bigotry when we give them education and they find out they can not get employed due to their illegal status. When money is hard to come by for public services, we should not be throwing good money away. Gil Cedilo the author of AB 131 should of only authorized the funds when Joe Baca’s PROUD act gets approved in congress.

For Blue County editor Patrick Kahler, he posted a message also that I tried to reply to.

Greg Pierce Bigots, xenophobes, homophobes, bad spelling and grammar, I am so glad you have found a home in the Tea Party. Why is it the Republicants are so concerned about what goes on in the bedroom, call themselves Christians, yet hate people? So much for loving thy fellow man at Christmas lecture they heard. God Bless…

I can agree with you when it deals about the Republican Party fetish about making the lives of LGBT people with misery and using Latinos as wedge issues. Republicans are doing their best to make themselves irrelevant in California when my party should do their best in attracting voters, not chasing them away. Our state is getting less pale skinned and more young people believe LGBT people should be treated with respect.

I appreciate the fact that there are thousands who want to enter our borders each day, but we do not have the infrastructure or the money to accept any or all of the tired masses. However if people want to do something for the nation such as serve in the armed forces or do agricultural work for 3-4 years then I have no qualms about people earning a green card.

I do understand this economy is rough on many of us, with school districts not offering raises and positions being cut I would like to ask for a big favor from many of you in the field. Just like many school districts do not have money for supplies, many of our parents of your students do not have the money either.

I have written a column on this previously on my blog, but I would like to reemphasize this issue.

School projects should not cost an arm and a leg and there should be a mandate that there should be projects that cost less than 5 dollars for students with families who do not have much money. Families should not need to do a James Cameron production for their book report or atom model project.

Also, there should be a fiscal limit of how much a teacher can mandate in how much can be spent for a school project on the parents. Unfunded mandates are indeed a burden.

Extra credit assignments should not require having to visit the store to build a thirty dollar contraption either. If educators have more empathy on their students parents, then the relationship will greatly improve.

Due to education cut backs, schools in our area need funding from people like you and me. Microsoft has established a website where people can look to schools near where we live and contribute funds to make a difference for them.

The website is called Donorschoose.org, feel free to visit the site and read the sad, yet needed requests from many educators in our communities.

An educator in Ontario wrote:

My students deserve the best I can provide! Unfortunately, I was recently changed from Kindergarten to 2nd grade. In this transition, I found that the specific materials I have for my new students, such as lined paper and crayons, are specifically for Kinder aged students and not 2nd grade.

I feel horrible that this transition is not the students’ fault. In addition to having inappropriate materials for my students, the budget crisis in the state of California is getting worse and worse. This year, we were only given a fourth of what we usually get to purchase supplies for students. This means the majority of the supplies came from my pocket or extremely kind donations! My students truly deserve the best I can offer them! They are so excited to be 2nd graders and are so eager to learn. I do not want a budget crisis to interfere in any way with their opportunity to learn. I also would hate to have to eliminate any special projects encouraging further understanding because we are limited on supplies. Please help me keep these students motivated and un-phased by the budget.

Find a school near you and make the lives of children better.

From our local state senator:

Dear Neighbor:

There is a new rule for school! With the beginning of this new school year, many parents and guardians are unaware of important changes in state immunization requirements. All California students entering 7th through 12th grades this year must be immunized with a pertussis (whooping cough) vaccine booster called Tdap. The new state law, which became effective July 1, 2011, applies to all students – current, new, and transfers – in public and private schools. The law has two phases:

For the 2011-2012 school year, all students entering into 7th, 8th, 9th, 10th, 11th or 12th grades will need proof of a Tdap vaccine booster shot for school.

For 2012-2013 and future school years, all students entering into 7th grade will need proof of a Tdap vaccine booster shot for school.

It is estimated that more than one million students in California have not complied with the Tdap vaccine booster shot requirement. Because school districts are concerned that they would be forced to turn students away for noncompliance, the Legislature passed emergency legislation to allow for a 30-day extension beyond the first day of the school year to verify that a student has been vaccinated. This option for conditional attendance will assist schools that need additional time to gather records on their students, or for student to receive their Tdap vaccination.

To exercise this option, the county office of education or school district must work with the pupil’s parent or guardian so that the pupil receives the Tdap booster vaccination. Students will face exclusion from classes if they do not meet the vaccine requirement by their school’s deadline. Check with your child’s school to find out more information.

Children should visit their regular doctor or health care provider to get their Tdap vaccine booster shot and other immunizations as soon as possible to avoid the back-to-school rush. If you do not have a regular doctor or health insurance, the Tdap booster vaccine and other immunizations are available at all county public health clinics throughout California for approximately $10.

Thanks to being connected to a group of alumni from my high school, I get to find out about events that might be relevant for the community. In Upland next month there is a memorial run to commemorate the life of a 9 year old girl who died from cancer seven years ago.

Chaffey High School teacher Dave Savage and his family started an organization to help other children and their families in the Inland Valley of California deal with childhood cancer. And the people of our area have an opportunity to help the worthy cause.

California Republicans thought that Proposition 11 would become a breakthrough for the party’s representation compared to the redistricting of 2001 done by the Democratic Party legislators in Sacramento. Unfortunately the other partners in the Proposition 11 campaign, minority rights groups such as MALDEF and NAACP struck it big instead.

If you are wondering why there are not enough Republican districts, it is because we failed to reach out to minority communities such as in the San Gabriel Valley and the west end of San Bernardino County and they were not able to add cities such as Upland or Rancho Cucamonga to those districts.

Chairman Tom Del Deccaro said to the media “We are concerned that this appears to be a tilt towards Democrats.” Because there are not enough Republicans to make Republican leaning constituencies Tom. We have to become an electable party in order to be able to have more Republican districts and get them elected in Sacramento and Washington.

The platform is the first step in changing the party. The platform is a symbolic yet vital document for our state party. Wonder why our state party has no representation in the San Francisco Bay Area or Silicon Valley? We chased them away with the social issues that have more priority than job creation agenda for the last two decades. Social issues are personal to all those involved and should be left to the region or district at a micro level. If voters in Temecula or Roseville want to focus on traditional marriage or right to life issues that is their choice.

The goal for our party is to make a party that can be elected in a state that is diverse as California. We need to work on what unites us than what divides us. Rohit Joy has stated “The CRP has got to stand for something or we’ll fall for anything”, the CRP is still standing for something, job creation and non-bloated government spending are the two main examples. Why fight for issues that divide people away from our party where we could figure out ways to improve the economy of California and make the lives of Californians better.

Our bench is empty, we elected 0 statewide officials from Governor, US Senate to Insurance Commissioner. I hear Mike Spence say over and over about minorities and their social conservatism, but they mostly want bigger government and higher taxes for you to pay. Even if African American voters in Oakland and Latinos in Pico Rivera voted for Proposition 8, they are certainly going to not side with us on the Amazon sales tax issue, or public pension reform to prohibit public pension spiking such as adding vacation time and fringe benefits to pension obligations.

Even though Proposition 8 was passed, the margin between Proposition 22’s victory in 2000 and Proposition 8’s victory in 2008 was substantial. Proposition 8 is ready to die either in the courts or on the ballot. Instead of being the party of limiting personal liberty, we should be known as the party as the party of opportunity and not as the party of the big wedge.

We are already a minority party and soon we will be eclipsed by the Decline to State Party, we tried the status quo for the last two decades and it is time for a message that can bring those voters back in the fold.

Animal rescue volunteers need your aid to help take care of some critically ill animals in our back yard of San Bernardino County.

Animal rescue is a thankless and money draining activity and for these volunteers there has been so many sad cases money is getting very tight to get these animals taken care of and stabilized.

5 pups in danger of dying

We pulled 5 pups from Devore on Thursday. Everyone of them are extremely sick. We had to bring Tejava the parvo pup home because we don’t have the money to pay for him to be in the ICU. We have 2 others with pneumonia, 1 with kennel cough and Gracie the 6 mo pit bull girl with severe brain damage. Please help us save their lives, we have no money. We are doing the best we can, we can’t save these orphans without your help. We have had so many sick and injured dogs this year that we are totally broke. We want to continue rescuing but won’t be able to do it without your help. Please help us, for them.

Just like any job where you are dealing with the public, you check your prejudice at the back door.

From the Big Bear Grizzly:

Bear Valley Unified School District, the school board, a teacher, principal and interim superintendent of schools have been named in a federal law suit. The suit charges that the defendants violated the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and the equal protection clause of the 14 Amendment.

The suit was filed July 20 in U.S. District Court by MALDEF on behalf of Coral Alives. The Latina student claims she was harassed publicly and suffered racial discrimination in 2010 by a teacher at Big Bear Middle School. MALDEF is the Mexican American Legal Defense and Educational Fund.

During a press conference July 21, the student, her mother and representatives of MALDEF talked about the suit and the environment for racial discrimination in the country today.

Coral says she wore a Mexico T-shirt to school during the final days of the school year in June 2010 to show her support for Mexico playing in the World Cup soccer tournament. She said her teacher, Suzy Carpenter, after asking her if she was Mexican, asked Coral what the girl was doing in her country. Coral claims Carpenter said it was because of people like her (Coral) that she had to pay high taxes.
