I am posting this essay for a short time, but it will be posted later in March after the contest deadline.

In this economy, having any job is something to be proud of. However the company I work for does not have any chances for advancement and it does seem like a dead end job when many of the full time positions got consolidated and the redundant employees got demoted. Working part time and living with family cannot go on forever. For the last two years I have became motivated to work on my goal to become an educator for the Social Sciences for the 7th thru 12thgrades.

I did not expect to return back to Chaffey College. I graduated in 2001, transferred to UC Riverside and earned a BA in Political Science in 2003. I have flirted with the idea of becoming an educator for a few years, but never did anything about my goal until now. I took most of the tests needed in order to be eligible to enter a teacher preparation program, but each school I wanted to attend had its own criteria for admission. One school wanted me to have previous experience working with children while most programs that focus on this aspect already want people already experienced so there was no way I was going to get my foot in the door, while the school I eventually considered said what I have done is great, but I still needed more classes in order to be eligible for admission.

I was eager to start as soon as possible, however with five classes needed to finish I was in a state of panic and realized that the place I began my higher education would be the place where I could complete my goals and transfer so I could finally make good use from my education from Chaffey College and UC Riverside. It was way past the registration date to get several classes to sign up for, but something did catch my eye when I saw an advertisement for Fast Track classes were added that semester and I raced to get admitted into one of them so I could get ready for completing my goal. Sociology was my first class and I did have some minor issues in juggling work and school at the same time. Sadly there was no online classes to take advantage of where I could work my assignments at my own time, but my employer ignored my schedule change the first week and I was worried that I was going to be dropped from class. With this unfortunate economy we are all suffering its effects and I was worried that I was going to lose my seat due to not showing up. However I was one lucky individual because my instructor had to go to the hospital on the first day and there was no worry about being dropped from the roll sheet. Then after talking to the corporate office of my company they fixed my schedule for the week ahead and things did go smoothly.

It may be odd for some students and some instructors to see someone seasoned in their classes, but during my Sociology class I ended up helping to lead study sessions for my classmates and even gave advice on how to write proper research papers such as how to find sources and how to begin a paper with a thesis statement. In my World History class I was complimented on the perspectives I provided during class discussions on the various topics we studied in class.

I thought taking these five classes was going to be redundant, but personally I learned more from these classes that would help me do better in my future studies academically and professionally. Right now I am working on my final class in order to transfer to Western Governor’s University, and I am using my experience and wisdom to help me through the finish line. I was basically a C student when I was at Chaffey a decade ago, but my grades have turned for the better in the last year where I have earned A and A minus grades mainly. Education is indeed a terrible thing to waste, when I was a student a decade ago I did not take school as seriously as I have done today. With higher tuition and lack of seats it has driven me to succeed at the first moment so I do not end up prolonging my journey any longer.

Tim,
What happened at UC Davis does lead towards hostility which came to UC Riverside. Yes, there are people who helped led to these riots, but its the UC system. This activism (peaceful and violent) has happened since the days of the 1960s for better or worse.

I may not be living in an utopia like the far left folk who want free rides, but fees going upto 20k a year does frustrate us all.

From prior experiences for the last five years, I think the best idea might be web conferences. No matter what campus the UC Regents meet, it should be done via teleconference because demonstrations are going to happen until we get back to stable fees that the average Californian can afford.

It might mean we might have to pare down the layers of administration, maybe have a 30% Online, 70% in campus degree program to save on costs. It might mean begging the state legislators to be pro-business so we can bring forth the revenue to make UC affordable instead of taxing our way to salvation.

It seems that my last class I need before I transfer to Western Governors University seems to be rather informational and stimulating. Due to enrolling for the wrong history class where I dropped it before the withdrawal date I have to take the class again which basically makes my journey longer.

However just like my part time job and my experiences at the dentist, I will traverse my struggles. Instead of the dentist costing me over 990, I expect this year’s expenditures to be half as much due to improved dental habits. Its sad that my poor dental habits in the past could of paid for half my student loan or a trip to England.

I am ready to roll and the journey is only beginning. Because I eagerly want to transfer to WGU and start my teaching credential program by July. I previously wrote a column criticizing some of the most infamous instructors at Chaffey College, if I only had a different instructor for US History I would have been starting the program for my Social Science teaching credential next month. It just makes me wish for the sentiment that if I have my own classroom, I want to be fair to my students and not fail people just to get my kicks.

Mercy’s K9 Rescue needs help badly due to losing their property. Their property got sold and they are looking for people to either adopt one of their dogs or donate if they can. For the last 30 years they ran a kennel and dog training business in South Ontario, but due to the economy the status of their operation is in danger.

They do not know what will happen due to the terms of the sale and after the deal was closed with the new owner.

There are over 20 dogs to consider, and the owners want as many of them adopted so nothing unfortunate happens such as having to take them to the overburdened humane society. The owners of the rescue deeply care about their dogs and work with them so they can be well mannered for your home.

If anyone knows any affordable place where they could relocate and house their dogs, or know of an attorney who can negotiate with the new owners for low cost it would be highly appreciated.

Thanks to Top 2, if people knew Gary Miller’s policy positions, he will do just as bad as former Senator Santorum.

What is Congressional District 31 (2011)

41% Democratic, 37% Republican, 18% Decline to State with a history of people voting for Democratic Party candidates for President and Governor.

I think this will be a suicide run for Gary Miller, and I thought he was a prudent businessman and knew when to pull in and pull out.

56 Obama, 41 McCain, 49 Brown 42 Whitman

If he wanted to waste money, it would be better to give money to the local food bank or animal shelters.

We all want extra money, but for these 120 public servants I would require that they would have to WORK for it. My merit pay proposal gives incentives for California state legislators to think of ideas that would create jobs and add more revenue to the state.

I introduce merit pay proposal for our state legislators. Legislators would be wanting to create jobs and increase revenue without raising tax rates. If you chase away taxpayers and companies from settling away from your state, do not expect a pay raise.

Here are the key points:

Unemployment rate would have a target for 7 percent.

There would be a bonus for getting the unemployment rate down 1% statewide, each 1% reduced from the previous year’s Unemployment rate to the target unemployment rate would give a legislator 1000 for each percent.

If a budget deficit is basically perfect with a 0.25% error rate, a legislator would earn 2000 dollars.

If state revenue goes up without a sales tax increase, income tax increase or corporation tax increase then the legislator would earn another 2000 dollar bonus. State revenue must rise above 50 million dollars to qualify for this clause.

If the number of companies that make over 200,000 a year enter California more than them leaving our state the legislator would qualify for a 1000.00 bonus too.

Money talks, this may only be a rough draft of a policy proposal. However Democrats need to recognize that the legislation they pass does have an effect on our state. Democrats do like to make the state in their own utopia and I can understand that, but the idea is to encourage the legislators to THINK before they pass their laws.

Since the Facebook commenting software is either not displaying my comments or the staffers at the Daily Bulletin are censoring comments even though they were quite tame I would like to address my views on the issues here at my personal blog.

How can this be bigotry when we are allowing ILLEGALS a chance to get financial aid? They need to become legal…then they can get all the aid they want! – David Serbin

David, I do agree. Its bigotry when we give them education and they find out they can not get employed due to their illegal status. When money is hard to come by for public services, we should not be throwing good money away. Gil Cedilo the author of AB 131 should of only authorized the funds when Joe Baca’s PROUD act gets approved in congress.

For Blue County editor Patrick Kahler, he posted a message also that I tried to reply to.

Greg Pierce Bigots, xenophobes, homophobes, bad spelling and grammar, I am so glad you have found a home in the Tea Party. Why is it the Republicants are so concerned about what goes on in the bedroom, call themselves Christians, yet hate people? So much for loving thy fellow man at Christmas lecture they heard. God Bless…

I can agree with you when it deals about the Republican Party fetish about making the lives of LGBT people with misery and using Latinos as wedge issues. Republicans are doing their best to make themselves irrelevant in California when my party should do their best in attracting voters, not chasing them away. Our state is getting less pale skinned and more young people believe LGBT people should be treated with respect.

I appreciate the fact that there are thousands who want to enter our borders each day, but we do not have the infrastructure or the money to accept any or all of the tired masses. However if people want to do something for the nation such as serve in the armed forces or do agricultural work for 3-4 years then I have no qualms about people earning a green card.
